Levels 4A and 4B girls

Level 4A and 4B girls are eligible to perform one the following roles: Toy Soldiers and Flower/Flower Understudies. Please note: all schedules are subject to change. Families will be notified of these changes via email. Flowers/Flower understudies are considered advanced roles and require full participation in all theatre rehearsals and performances in case emergency coverage is needed. All 4A and 4B students are eligible to learn the role of Flower, and will either perform the role or understudy it. If you would prefer to have a less full schedule, you can opt to only do the role of Toy Soldier. Please email info@newballet.com if you would like to participate only as a Toy Soldier and not as a Flower/Flower Understudy.

MINIMAL CASTING - Minimal Casting is available to students who have conflicts during theatre rehearsals or performances or those who would like a lighter rehearsal and performance schedule. If you opt for Minimal Casting your student will learn flowers on Tuesday rehearsals during class time as a training opportunity, but will only be cast as a Toy Soldier, and will only be called to the theater for their Toy Soldier performances. They will only need to attend Toy Soldier rehearsals on Saturdays and can miss Sunday rehearsals if needed.

Preliminary Casting (which roles students are are registered to learn) will be posting on September 23.
Who will actually perform the role of flower and who will be a flower understudy will be announced with Performance Casting on November 1.

All roles will need to purchase liner leotards and flesh colored tights. Toy Soldiers will need to purchase flesh colored character shoes. Flowers will need to wear flesh colored pointe shoes for performances. We do plan to cast all students in 4A and 4B who do not opt for Minimal Casting as both Toy Soldiers and as Flower/Flower Understudies, and for those selected to perform the role of Flower, it is possible to dance both roles in the same performance.

In-Studio Rehearsal Schedule

Saturdays - Flowers/Flower Understudies 12:30-1:30; October 19 - December 7 (no rehearsal November 30)
Saturdays - Toy Soldiers:  1:45-2:45; October 5 - December 7 (no rehearsal November 30)
Tuesdays - Flowers/Flower Understudies  6:00-7:00; October 22 or when needed (Students will be called out of Contemporary for this rehearsal when we are ready to start working with their role) through December 3
Sundays both roles: 12:00-3:30; November 10, November 17, November 24, December 8 (including warm up class)

Theatre Rehearsal Schedule - Mandatory Availability

Level 4A and 4B MUST BE AVAILABLE for the following in-theater rehearsals. We plan to have multiple casts, so students may not be called to every rehearsal listed below, but students must be available for all the rehearsals listed below and there is a possibility they will be cast for all rehearsals and performances. Specific schedules for each student will be released by November 1st with Performance Casting. More details will be sent closer to theater week. 

Toy Soldiers (Act 1):
Tech rehearsal: Wednesday, December 11th, 5:00-7:15pm
Tech rehearsal: Thursday, December 12 5:30-7:30pm
Dress rehearsal: Friday, December 13th, 6:15-8:20pm

Flower/Flower Understudy (Act 2): Those dancers cast to perform flowers are expected to attend all in-theatre rehearsals, whether or not they are on the floor so that they can watch the spacing rehearsals
Tech rehearsal: Wednesday, December 11th, 4:00-9:30pm (may arrive after or during warmup 4:30-5:00, if school schedule dictates.)
Tech rehearsal: Thursday, December 12th, 4:00-9:30pm (may arrive after or during warmup 4:30-5:00, if school schedule dictates.)
Dress rehearsal: Friday, December 13th, 4:30-9:15pm

Performance Schedule: MANDATORY AVAILABILITY

We plan to have multiple casts, so students may not be called to every performance listed below, but students MUST BE AVAILABLE for all the performances listed below and may be cast in all performances. Performance dates for each student will be released November 1st. Please note that the times listed below are performer estimated drop off and pick up times, not the actual show times. A Theater packet with more details will be sent closer to theater week.  Students cast to perform the role of Flowers are expected to be in the theatre for all theatre rehearsals and performances in case emergency casting is needed.

NOTE: 3:00 PM and 8:00PM pick up times are at intermission. If you have tickets to one of these shows and would like your student performer to join you in the audience for the second half, they must also have a ticket. You may exit via the Market St. door to pick up your student and escort them back through that same door to have your tickets scanned and return to your seats.

Pay The Participation Fee By September 13

Once you have registered there is a link in the form to pay the participation fee. You also may pay your Participation Fee here if you accidentally exit out of the window. The Participation Fee for Level 4 Students is $225 (this is waived for Continuing Scholarship Students or students on Financial Aid who receive notification that it is waived). The Participation Fee covers the cost of rehearsal staff, backstage theater staff, and costume creation/maintenance. Performance tickets must be purchased through the Box Office.
